A home on Mountainview Drive in Alpine Meadows was levelled by fire in an early morning blaze.
According to witnesses at the scene, as many as 16 people were in the five-bedroom home before fire completely engulfed it.
Fire Chief Rob Whitton reported that all the people in the house at the time of the fire made it out and Emergency Social Services attended to look after the tenants of the home.
“No one was injured and the fire is still under investigation,” Whitton said in an email message.
The fire department was alerted at 4:05 a.m. Saturday (May 4) and a witness said the home was fully engulfed in flames when the firefighters arrived at the scene.
A neighbour who lives in a suite next to the gutted home said he was awakened by the bright light from the fire. He added that he started hosing down a shed to prevent it from catching fire.
The flames from the fire were visible from as far away as Rainbow. The heat from the fire scorched trees near the home.
Once the fire was put out, an excavator was brought in to pull down the remains of the house. The debris was put into trucks and hauled away. A firefighter at the scene said the remains had to be pulled apart to ensure the fire was completely out.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Whitton said more information would be made available Monday morning.
