The Whistler Outdoor Photography Summit will return for a fourth year this fall.
Workshops will run from Sept. 26 to 29 in conjunction with the Out of Bounds backcountry photo contest. There will be two separate workshops this year: one for intermediate photographers and another for advanced shooters, say organizers. "Photography in Whistler and the outdoor activities that we love go hand in hand just like the athletes and the equipment they use on the mountain," says summit director and local photographer Blake Jorgenson, in a release. "Documenting and sharing our adventures with others inspires us to be out in the mountains even more."
An evening lecture series will also give the public a chance to learn from top-notch photographers and leaders in the industry, who will share their best images and the stories behind them. The day courses, meanwhile, will include going out in the field to learn how to work with subjects, along with classroom work editing and going over images.
The full advanced course, which includes three days of shooting and instruction and six evening lectures over three evenings, is $900. The intermediate course is $750 while the evening lectures are $10 each or $50 for the three nights. Instructors include Jorgenson, Jordan Manley, Scott Serfas, Paul Morrison and Eric Berger, along with industry guests that haven't been announced yet. Squamish art on display
The Squamish Adventure Centre is hosting an art exhibit featuring work by three local artists throughout May.
The show is part three of a series put together by VISUALS, Squamish's local artists' society, along with the Squamish Sustainability Corporation and the Squamish Store at the Adventure Centre.
The artists include Leilani Beckett, a painter who's drawn to water, sky, mountains and wildlife as subjects; Sonia Richardson, a watercolour painter whose work features florals and landscapes; and Jennifer Blair, a glass work artists who combines colours and textures in her pieces.
The show runs until June 2 with all works available for purchase. The Adventure Centre is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. New exhibits are displayed every four weeks.
Call for artisans and entertainers
The Creekside Artisan Market will open next month for its second year and organizers are looking for artisans to sell their wares.
Applications close today (May 23). The market will be open every Saturday through September from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. featuring arts, crafts, produce by Sea-to-Sky artisans. They're also hoping to attract some local entertainers to showcase their talent during the weekly events.
There are no fees for participants, but the vendors must have exhibitor liability insurance. Applications are being accepted now, but space is limited, organizers warn.
