Gymnasts end season on top

Members of the Whistler Gymnastics Club made their annual trip to Kelowna to take part in the Ogopogo Invitational, the last meet of the season.

Members of the Whistler Gymnastics Club made their annual trip to Kelowna to take part in the Ogopogo Invitational, the last meet of the season.

Whistler's Provincial Level 3 athletes, the highest level athletes with the club, had a great showing despite some falls while performing their most advanced skills.

In the 2001 category, Gabby Flynn placed third all around with gold medals on vault and floor, a silver medal on bars and an 11th place finish on beam. Gigi Kranjc was sixth on beam and floor and 12th on vault and bars to place 11th all around. Hailey Jackson, competing in the 2002 group, was first on vault and beam, 10th on bars and 11th on floor to place third all around.

In Provincial Level 2, Caleigh Lamont placed second all around in the 2000 group with silver medals on floor and bars, a third place result on vault and a fifth place result on beam. Hannah Peatfield won gold on beam, silver on floor and placed fourth on vault and eighth on bars to rank third. Cassia Jean was fourth all around, finishing second on vault, fourth on bars, fifth on floor and sixth on beam. Leah Brownlie was 10th all around and Charlie Jarratt, only able to compete in two events was ninth on bars and 11th on beam.

For the 2001 athletes, Jennifer Lafreniere was 14th all around, and placed fifth on beam and eighth on vault and floor. In 2002, Katie Faerge was seventh on bars and 10th on vault to place 16th.

For the Level 1 athletes, Amy Ertel placed first on floor, ninth on vault and 10th on beam in the 2001 group to place 10th all around.

For 2002, Ayva Spierings placed seventh all around with a silver medal on bars, placing fourth place on beam, sixth on floor and 10th on vault.

For 2003, Tessa Juniper was ninth on beam and 10th on vault to rank 13th all around.

For 2004, Mali Forest was second on floor, eighth on bars, ninth on beam and eighth all around. Kaila Lafreniere was sixth on vault, eighth on beam and 10th on the floor to place 10th all around.

For the 2005 group, Andrea Vazquez-Vela earned a gold award for her floor routine, and finished silver all around. Annie Sproule and Mardi Williamson also finished with silver rankings, while Gabby Collins finished with a bronze.
