Weighing in at 25km from start to finish, the Comfortably Numb Trail Run is one of the most amazing and challenging off-road runs in the corridor, with almost 23km of the total distance taking place on one of Whistler's most iconic mountain bike trails.

The 2013 edition takes place this Sunday, June 23 with day-of-race registration available at the start line, the Wedgemount parking lot, until 8:45 a.m. The race gets underway at 9 a.m., bypassing the first part of the trail to separate the field then joining the trail a few kilometres before the longest sustained climb of the race.

From there the trail trends slightly upwards for another 10km, although with a lot of short descents and flat sections mixed in. The descent starts about 16km in, trending downhill for the next 6km on the Foreplay trail before bringing runners into Lost Lake Park and the final race to the finish line at Spruce Grove Park.

There's one aid station available at roughly the halfway point, but otherwise runners have to bring their own food and water.

The average time is between two-and-a-half and three hours, although a lot of runners finish between three and five hours.

The men's course record has been held by ultra runner Aaron Heidt since 2008, a speedy 1:49:50. Heidt also set the course record in the Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run in 2011.

For the women, the record set by Kristina Rody in the very first year, 2004, continues to stand at 2:05:25.

The trail can be technical in spots, especially if wet, and good trail running shoes are recommended. As well, runners should take extra care on the sometimes-rocky descent.

There are two shuttle buses available to the start line from the finish, the first leaving at 7:45 a.m. and the second at 8:15 a.m.
