Cutting tracks on 110cm of snow on Blackcomb. Date: October 3. Can it get any better than this?

Thanks to recent heavy snows, #WBFirstTracks social media contest winner Jeremy Bekken joined professional skiers Mike Douglas, Eric Hjorleifson and professional snowboarder Annie Boulanger on Blackcomb Mountain and the Spearman Glacier for a day on the slopes in bright sunshine. It sure doesn’t look like the beginning of October.

This is the earliest the pro skiers have ever been sent up by Whistler Blackcomb to test out the potential for the coming season. Also for the first time, they sent Bekken (AKA JerBuck) as the winner of the #WBFirstTracks competition.

Participants were asked to Tweet a photo or post their best Instagram shot with the hashtag #WBFirstTracks depicting the theme “First Tracks.” This is the first time WB has run a contest of this sort.

They were taken up by Whistler Heli-Skiiing, with ski photographer Paul Morrison and Switchback Entertainment capturing the action on film and photo.

Check out the video of their day out and imagine yourself in their places. Not long now!

The video has an interview with professional skier Mike Douglas, scenic shots of Blackcomb Mountain and the Spearman Glacier, Bekken and the professional athletes skiing and snowboarding through deep powder, and aerial shots and a sneak peek at the construction of the new Crystal Ridge Express Chair lift, due to open December 7, 2013.
