Environment Canada is predicting 20 to 30 cm of snow is going to fall overnight and into tomorrow (Monday, Feb. 10). A Special weather statement was issued for the Sea to Sky corridor this morning at 6:47 a.m.

The weather agency is calling the next weather system to hit Whistler and Squamish a complex system. Snow is expected to fall through to Tuesday afternoon.

“Another weather system will approach the coast late Tuesday bringing more snow... Tuesday night and Wednesday,” warned Environment Canada. “With the progression of the system, snow levels are expected to rise. Snow over the Sea to Sky Highway will change to rain sometime on Wednesday.”

Drive BC is well aware of the forecast. The government agency sent out an alert via Twitter after the special statement was issued by Environment Canada.

In addition to the expected snow, Drive BC is alerting drivers of a tree removal project on Highway 99 between Alice Lake Road and Culliton Creek. Crews have been falling small trees at the side of the highway for the past few weeks and that project is scheduled to pick up again on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Lane closures and 10-minute delays should be expected.

News of the snowstorm has Whistler Blackcomb encouraging visitors to trade terrain park gear for powder boards.

WB is offering discounted lift tickets for residents of B.C. (with proof of residency) on Monday to mark the B.C. Day holiday.
