Daniel Sailland is leaving his role as chief administrative officer (CAO) for the Village of Pemberton and has accepted the CAO position for the Town of Qualicum Beach.

Sailland announced his resignation to council during a special meeting held Tuesday, June 24.

"This wasn't an easy decision," Sailland said in a release. "My time here as a civil servant and community member has been very rewarding. This is an exciting time for Pemberton, and council has worked hard at identifying strategic and collaborative opportunities that are aligned with our community vision, while engaging the residents in the decision-making process.

"It has been a pleasure working with such a dedicated council and talented staff on these initiatives."

Sailland has been in his current position since 2010, and led the village staff through a number of key projects, such as downtown enhancement, boundary expansion, airport revitalization and Pemberton's latest Official Community Plan. Prior to that, Sailland spent more than three years as senior administrator for the Mount Currie Band.

The native of St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Que., will remain with the village until Aug. 20, then start his new job in Qualicum Beach in September. A search for his replacement will begin immediately, said the release.

"Sailland's strong and determined leadership has served our community well," said acting mayor James Linklater. "Both council and staff have great respect for Daniel's work. This is an exciting opportunity for CAO Sailland and his family, and we are supportive of his decision to advance his career in local government."
