A string of vehicle thefts reported in Whistler, Squamish and North Vancouver this week are likely related, according to Whistler RCMP.

On Sunday, March 22, the first of several stolen vehicles was reported when a man told cops his 1993 Honda Accord was taken from a Cheakamus Crossing parking lot.

Although no broken glass was observed at the scene, a neighbour questioned by police said his parents were awoken to the sound of a car starting at around 5 a.m.

The vehicle was recovered the following day in Surrey.

Shortly after, a second vehicle, a 1999 Dodge Dakota, was reported stolen, again from Cheakamus Crossing. The truck was recovered hours later on Alpha Lake Road, where there appeared to be damage to the ignition. Notably, all the owner’s items were still in the vehicle.

While police were at the scene, a call came in tipping them off to a suspicious vehicle parked close to where the Dodge truck was stolen from on Millar Creek Road. The SUV, a Green Honda CRV, was reported stolen earlier that day from North Vancouver. A forensic examination turned up fingerprints. Police are working to match them to a suspect.

But the trouble didn’t end there. Shortly after 2 p.m., a grey 2002 Mazda Protégé was reportedly stolen from an open lot on Alpha Lake Road. The car remains missing, and police are asking the public to look out for the vehicle, license plate 116 RBC.

Later, while patrolling on Legacy Way, officers located a green Honda Civic that was also reported stolen on March 22 — this time from Squamish.

Finally, a complainant called police at 6 p.m. to say that his vehicle had been broken into. Missing was some loose change and a paycheque, which was actually recovered from the Honda Civic police seized earlier in the day, one of the factors that led police to believe the thefts are linked.

The investigation is ongoing.

Break and enter nets trove of loot

Thousands of dollars worth of valuables were reportedly taken from a village residence on Sunday.

A complainant told police their home on Eagle Drive was broken into, although there appeared to be no damage caused to gain entry. Three laptops, an iPad, passports, numerous debit and credit cards as well as “a substantial quantity of cash” were reported stolen, said Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair.

Whistler RCMP is awaiting the results of a forensic examination of the scene to try and identify any suspects in the incident.

Man allegedly attacked by trio of suspects in village club

A Whistler man is recovering from multiple injuries after three unknown suspects allegedly attacked him in a local nightclub on Monday, March 23.

The victim reportedly suffered possible facial fractures, a concussion, cuts and bruising after three unknown men inside a village nightclub reportedly jumped him, police said.

The attack continued outside the club, LeClair said, where the suspects allegedly held him down, striking him in the face and ribs.

The investigation continues.
