Along with cheering on young athletes as they race in the Whistler Cup, there will be plenty of free music to be heard around Whistler this weekend at the Family Music Festival.
The festival takes place on the stage in Village Square on Friday, April 3, Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5.
Friday's performers are: Jon Shrier (2 p.m.) and Poor Dirty Sylvia (3 p.m.). The opening ceremonies are also on Friday, with a parade (4 p.m.) and welcome by Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden (5:20 p.m.).
Saturday's performers are Some Assembly Required (2 p.m.), Hannah Van Spronsen and Tom McKoy (3 p.m.), The K Band (4 p.m.) and LB Productions (5 p.m.).
Sunday's performers are The Rutherford Creek Trio (2 p.m.), Sue Stearns and Don Murray (3 p.m.), Dawn Walsh and Brad White (4 p.m.) and Sophie Cullen (4:50 p.m.). Closing ceremonies are at 5 p.m.
Chamber group holds concert
Whistler Chamber Group is performing a fundraiser for the Whistler Museum.
A Classical Moment — Chamber Music for Spring takes place at the museum on Friday, April 3, at 4:30 p.m.
The concert features music from the British Isles, particularly Ireland and Scotland, performed by harpist Alison Hunter, viola player Lisa Hanson, flute and tenor saxophone player Ross Hacquebard.
Admission by donation.
Whistler Presents contract awarded to brand.LIVE
The contract for producing the Whistler Presents Summer Concert Series has been awarded to brand.LIVE, says the Resort Municipality of Whistler in an email.
This is the third year brand.LIVE has been awarded the contract.
The Whistler Presents Summer Concert Series brings in live performers for free concerts throughout the summer season.
In 2014 performers included Ghanaian reggae artist Rocky Dalwani, Toronto singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega and Juno-winning indie rockers Said the Whale.
The contract runs until Oct. 9.
Spring Fling for film festival
Tickets are still available for the Whistler Film Festival's (WFF) annual fundraiser, Spring Fling — A Taste of Whistler.
There are wine tastings, food stations and live entertainment, along with a silent and live auction and 50/50 raffle.
The event is hosted by Entertainment Tonight Canada's Erin Cebula.
Spring Fling takes place on Saturday, April 4 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Whistler Resort.

WFF Feature Lab call for producers, projects
The Whistler Film Festival has opened its call for the 2015 WFF Feature Project Lab.
Up to six producers from across Canada will participate in the lab, an intense two-part business and creative-content development experience.
New this year, the first phase of the program will take place over four days from June 21 to June 24 and will include four months of ongoing feedback and project development. The second phase is a four-day follow-up from Dec. 1 to 4, during the Whistler Film Festival and Summit.

Creative writing program launches
Do you have a story you want to tell?
A six-part writing program offered by the Whistler Arts Council and the Whistler Writers Group will help you get it down on paper.
The Craft of Writing: Introductory Writing Techniques, is being offered by writers Sara Leach and Rebecca Wood Barrett on Wednesdays from April 8 to May 13 at Millennium Place.
