There's only a week remaining to shine a light on the community's best and brightest, with nominations for the Whistler Excellence Awards closing on April 15.

Hosted by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, this annual black-tie event honours excellence in the fields of business, customer service, innovation, sustainability, the arts and community service, and is scheduled for June 15.

"It's a great way to say thank you, we're watching, we see how hard you work, we see what you give to the community," said The Grocery Store owner and 2014 Citizen of the Year Sue Adams in a release. "It's a wonderful opportunity for the community as a whole to say thank you."

While the chamber is expecting more nominations to roll in before next week's deadline, it is looking in particular for candidates for the Rising Star Award, given to an individual under 40 who has demonstrated outstanding performance and career progression in a management or leadership position.

The award is a good way to kickstart a brand, like last year's inaugural winner, The Mexican Corner's Pepe Barajas, owner of Infinity Enterprises Group, who was later given the Best Immigrant Entrepreneur Award at the 2015 Small Business BC Awards.

Some of the other hardware up for grabs on June 18 includes the Business Person of the Year; Innovative Business of the Year; the Sustainability in Action Award; the Service Excellence Award, awarded to both a small and large business; and the Whistler Champion of Arts and Culture Award.

Over 200 are expected to attend the ceremonies at the Westin Resort. The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is expected to announce the MC of the event soon. Entrepreneur Bruce Croxon, a former star of CBC's Dragons' Den, hosted in 2014.

Award nominations are open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15.
