With Graduation Day quickly approaching for thousands of high school students across the province, BC Transit is recognizing their accomplishments with a special transit pass next pass.

The GradPASS gives Grade 12 students free, unlimited travel for two days during the month of June. A total of 21,500 cards will be handed out to students in communities with the BC Transit system, including Whistler.

“Wherever life’s journey takes the Class of 2015, I hope the path is smooth and the travels safe – especially during graduation celebrations,” said B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone in a release. “To that end, I urge grads to take advantage of the free two-day transit GradPASS.”

To use the GradPASS, students have to scratch off their two chosen travel days and show the card to their bus driver. The pass is not transferable.

The special pass was first introduced in Vancouver in 1988 before the Victoria Regional Transit System adopted the program in 1990. It has since grown to include 21 communities across the province.

“Best wishes to all the graduates as they begin the next chapter of their lives,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha in the release. “We hope this graduation present is the start of a lifetime commitment to choosing public transit as a sustainable transportation choice.”
