After nearly a quarter century of operation, a company bearing Whistler's name is closing its doors.

Burnaby-based bottled water company Whistler Water is shutting down.

"Whistler Water is proud of the effort our team has made in developing a locally based bottled water company," the company said in a statement emailed to Pique.

"Over the years, we were successful in building a community of supporters that believed in and cared about our products. However, as a small B.C.-based company, we were unable to achieve the necessary economies of scale for the business to remain viable.

"As a result, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue all production of Whistler and Polaris Water products. An orderly shutdown of operations will take place over the course of the next few months."

According to its website, the company's water is sourced from just north of Whistler at Place Glacier.

The closure will affect 65 employees.
