Whistler will have to wait a little while longer for its second gas station.

The service station was originally slated for a possible mid-December opening date, but a spokesperson for Chevron confirmed weather conditions have hampered construction. The company is now aiming for a late-January opening.

"Asphalt and concrete set at a certain temperature and it's been cold with lots of precipitation, so it's slowed (construction) down by a few weeks," explained Chevron public affairs representative Adrien Byrne. "It's just putting the finishing touches on."

Plans for the 223-square-metre station include four fuel dispensers with two nozzles each, an electric charging station and a small convenience store.

Byrne said the company is "looking forward" to becoming a part of the resort community and is currently working on a partnership with a local non-profit organization.

The site will be part of the anticipated Rainbow Plaza, which will offer 2,230 sq. m. of commercial space including a boutique Loblaw's grocery store. The mixed retail and residential development will also include 65 resident-restricted rental units. The plaza is expected to open its doors in late spring 2016.
