STRIKE POSTPONED A tentative agreement has been reached between PWTransit and Unifor.

A tentative agreement has been reached between PWTransit and the union representing its workers (Unifor), the union said Wednesday.

"As such, the (strike) deadline that was set for Friday has been postponed," said Gavin Davies, Unifor's national representative on the bargaining committee.

"We are recommending acceptance of the tentative agreement to our members."

No date has been set for a member vote, Davies said, but it will likely be done next week.

Details of the agreement have not been made public at this time.

Davies said the main disagreements as of Jan. 19 were in regards to RRSP contributions, benefits and wages.

The negotiations affect the contracts of approximately 90 bus drivers, mechanics and maintenance workers in Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton.

Before the agreement was reached, Davies said the mood around the bargaining table was good.

"There's a mutual respect," he said. "We understand the position that they're in, they understand the position that we're in."

Serving the strike notice is not something the union members take lightly, he added.

"This does weigh heavy. They hear what's being said in the press, they read social media, and it cuts them to the core, but they do provide a valuable service and we're not being greedy," Davies said.

"It's anything but that."
