Pique Newsmagazine is launching a new monthly podcast that aims to go beyond the headlines to explore "the peaks and valleys of mountain life."

Co-hosted by reporters Brandon Barrett and Braden Dupuis, each episode of Mountain Mythic will include stories tied to a particular theme and feature in-depth conversations with some of the most important figures shaping modern mountain culture. The intent of the show is not to simply rehash the current events of the day, but to explore the bigger ideas and driving forces behind the community.

"We're excited to expand on the breadth of our content offerings, particularly in the digital sphere where podcasts are becoming increasingly popular, and Pique's Mountain Mythic series will be of interest to locals and tourists," said Pique publisher Sarah Strother. "It's a perfect download for driving the Sea to Sky Highway or when you're stuck in our ever-increasing weekend traffic!"

The first episode, released this week in time for Subaru Ironman Canada on July 24, focuses on the spirit of competition that is so entrenched into Whistler's DNA. Mountain Mythic hit the pavement with a 17-time Ironman and triathlon coach Kristian Manietta, and spoke with local legend and retired Olympic alpine skier Mike Janyk.

New episodes of the podcast will be available for streaming and download at www.piquenewsmagazine.com.
