The Squamish Chamber of Commerce has issued an apology and reinstated a member who was tossed out of the organization last year.

The chamber formally apologized to former director John Jervis through a news release. The situation began with a disagreement over an economic development survey Jervis conducted on behalf of the chamber of commerce.

"The Chamber Board apologizes on behalf of the Chamber to John Jervis and all Chamber Members for the manner in which the issues surrounding the economic development survey and subsequent expulsion were handled," the chamber stated in the news release.

The dispute at the board level over the economic development survey led to a series of other unsubstantiated allegations against Jervis — allegations that Jervis has continually denied.

Many members of the board of directors at the time resigned in the aftermath of the expulsion of Jervis. Voting is underway to elect a new board of directors with the result of the vote slated to be announced on Friday, Nov. 30.

Denise Imbeau was one of the directors who resigned, and following the release of the public apology she said she's encouraged that the organization is moving onward and upward.

"I support the decisions of the current board and their legal counsel and am glad that there are people willing to take on leadership roles like those of the Chamber," she said.

The news release from the chamber of commerce also retracted all the public accusations made against Jervis.
