With a new drummer and bassist, and a new album underway, the lead singer and co-founder of the band Nebula feels like he’s venturing into a new galaxy, beyond the Milky Way.

“It’s going to change the sound,” said Eddie Glass of Nebula’s refreshed lineup. “But it is still the same old me writing all the songs, which can be a good thing if you like our music.”

Nebula, defined as the first stage of a star’s cycle, renews itself for its 10 th anniversary this year with a North American tour starting in Whistler Friday, Sept. 28 at Garfinkel’s.

There is a lot to celebrate. The American troupe has toured with Mudhoney, J Mascis and the Fog, The Hellacopters, Clutch, Dead Meadow and many others.

Like a nebula, this “clump” formed larger masses by attracting other matter that eventually lead to the birth of a new star with tours throughout Europe and North America.

The psychedelic stoner rock band came together under the direction of Glass and Ruben Romano, after leaving Fu Manchu in1997.

Glass finds Nebula’s cross between Led Zeppelin and Nirvana is better received in European countries where televisions can still be turned to 1980s rock and roll music videos.

“I think commercial music and rap music pushed rock and roll underground,” said the former Fu Manchu member.

Glass’s sentiments were shared in the recent documentary, Such Hawks, Such Hounds – Scenes From the American Hard Rock Underground.

Glass also contributed a page for a limited edition issue of Volcom’s Volocomics comic book this year. The comic is a collection of short cartoons and random artwork from artists, musicians and skateboarders such as Neil Blender, Travis Milalrd and Mel Kadel. Even though Glass isn’t a pro skateboarder, he kept company with such. Blender would always come over with other pro riders to play music, and then the group let Glass tag along with them to the skatepark afterwards.

“We used to make 8 mm skateboard videos together,” Glass said of his friendship with Blender. “We used to make weird four track music and put it to all that arty footage of his.”

Almost two decades later, four track music has evolved to eight Nebula albums. Recording for the newest addition, not yet titled, will begin in January and is expected to be released late next year.

Nebula will share the Garfinkel’s stage with Les Breastfeeders from Montreal and Bonk from Norway.

Advance $10 tickets for the Loud Fast and Out of Control show are on sale or $14 at the door.
