What: Women of Whistler meeting

Where: Bavaria Restaurant

When: Tuesday, Dec. 3

Making it big in business is a hard road travelled for most small business owners. Good advice along the way can make all the difference to your desired outcomes.

The Women of Whistler and The Whistler Chamber of Commerce recognized this long ago and their popular monthly meetings have become a wonderful way to meet, greet and gain some insight from the best in the business.

Guest speaker at their next meeting on De. 3 will be Naomi Yamamoto, an inspiring mentor with more than a few unique feathers in her career cap.

She is a successful small business owner but perhaps more importantly, she is only the second woman to have ever served as chair of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce. She served on Capilano College’s board of directors for six years, including three as chair, and is currently the chair of the Board of the North Shore Credit Union. She was co-chair of the B.C. Business Summit in 1998, where more than 800 people brainstormed to help fix the province’s problems and develop a positive plan for the future. Her next challenge involves her appointment to the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority Board, which has the daunting task of ensuring sustainability of health care for one million people in Vancouver, Richmond, North Shore, Coast/Garibaldi, Bella Coola and Bella Bella regions.

If that isn’t impressive enough to whet your appetite for advice, her other passion is fishing. Swapping work wear for waders, clutching her custom made fishing rod, catching (and releasing) the prized Steelhead is a thrill beyond compare.

Reservations can be made by calling the Whistler Chamber of Commerce at 604-932-5528. The cost of the evening is $22. No shows will be billed.
