Altercation results in death of Squamish man

A 45-year-old Squamish resident succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, Sept. 19 after an altercation at a residence on Newport Road. According to the Squamish RCMP, Manfred Stewart was struck by a club and left lying unconscious outside of his home.

A 45-year-old Squamish resident succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, Sept. 19 after an altercation at a residence on Newport Road.

According to the Squamish RCMP, Manfred Stewart was struck by a club and left lying unconscious outside of his home. The police received the report at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. Stewart was taken to Squamish General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A 31-year-old male suspect was apprehended shortly after Stewart was taken to the hospital, and he made his first appearance in North Vancouver Provincial Court on Sept. 23. His identity has not yet been released.
