Over 350 guests attended the first annual Bearfoot Bistro World Oyster Invitational 2011, where patrons drank wine, vodka and noshed on oysters from Sawmill Bay Shellfish Company. Twelve iinternational oyster shuckers from around the world took part in the competition, which was judged by Pino Posteraro, executive chef at Cioppino's Mediterranean Grill; Robert Clark, executive chef at C Restaurant; Chris Field, oyster shucker at Oyster Boy Restaurant in Toronto; and Bearfoot Bistro executive chef Melissa Craig. The First prize of $5,000 went to Eamon Clark of Rodney's Oyster House in Toronto. Second prize of $1,000 was taken by Ben May of The Oysterman in Australia. Third prize of $500 went to Ian Peck of Coast Restaurant in Vancouver. None of the contestants won the $1,000 prize for breaking the Guinness World Record of most oysters opened in a minute (current record is 38), but they'll have another chance next year. Proceeds from the event went to the Canadian Red Cross Japan Relief Fund.
