The municipality has been slapped with another lawsuit, this time from its former CAO Bill Barratt.
Barratt, in a civil suit filed in the B.C. Supreme Court on Thursday, claims he was wrongfully dismissed earlier this year. He is looking for more than $400,000, covering two years' wages, for breach of his Employment Contract.
The claim states: "As a result of the wrongful dismissal, Mr. Barratt has suffered loss and damages."
Barratt submitted his resignation letter to council in January 2011 after a 29-year career with the municipality, rising up the ranks at the hall until he was awarded the top job six years ago.
In his resignation letter Barratt said he would resign on June 30 or "a date after the hiring of his replacement, whichever was later."
The claim then states that the RMOW advised him on around June 21 that council "resolved to terminate his employment in advance of his chosen resignation date by a four to three resolution.
"The four council members who voted in favour of terminating Mr. Barratt's employment were Members Milner, Forsythe (sic), Lamont and Zeidler."
The claim states the RMOW breached Barratt's Employment Contract when it failed to provide him with 24 months salary and benefits.
Barratt is looking for general damages for wrongful dismissal and breach of that contract as well as costs.
He was making $208,000 per year at the time.
