In Squamish there were 198 births in 2000, compared to 216 in 1999. In Whistler, the number of births decreased to 81, from 104. Pemberton saw the only increase in births, with 65 last year compared to 52 the year before.

In total, the number of births in the region decreased from 372 to 344. That’s 28 fewer babies – enough to fill one and a quarter classrooms or four minivans.
