Occupation : Municipal Councillor/freelance writer/stay at home daddy.
Furthest place traveled . Squamish's sister city in Japan
Describe yourself in five words or less. Passionate dedicated community focused fun
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? I'd be surprised if there was something people didn't already know about me.
What do you see as the top election issues?
Top issues are as varied as the constituents who live here. Local jobs, oceanfront development, First Nations relations, vibrant downtown, transit, safe routes to school, proper allocation of tax dollars to name a few. But the most important issue any election is quite simple - Will people vote. And since this is in the Pique I'll be more specific. Will the thousands of wonderful ex-Whistlerites who recently moved here to raise a family actually get informed and vote? I certainly hope so.
What would you do to enhance the environment for business?
Collaboration is essential. Squamish Chamber, First Nations, BIA, and all community groups pulling the same rope in the same direction. I'm proud to have been on the council that implemented the Service Squamish Initiative, which included a core review of every department to streamline the process and find efficiencies. We must continue to do this on a regular basis by listening to the business community and acting accordingly.
Give an example of a difficult situation you have overcome.
Rearranging my family's budget and lifestyle to be able to raise our two children with almost no outside childcare. Incredibly challenging and immensely rewarding.
Where should people go to get more information about you?
This is the most important part of the Councillor job - being open to anyone at anytime asking you any question. These questions in the paper are great but the best way to get to know a candidate is to talk to them directly. Please feel free to drop me a line at anytime:
