Canadians in medals at Nor-Am races

The Nor-Am Cup alpine races at Aspen and Loveland, Colorado were not your typical events, with World Cup athletes in North America for World Cup races at Aspen and Lake Louise in the field against the top development and club athletes from Canada and the U.S.

Canadians fared well overall with several podiums.

In Aspen, Marie-Pier Prefontaine led the team, winning the first giant slalom, ahead of Slovenian racer Ana Drev and American Megan McJames. Anna Goodman was 11 th , Brigitte Acton 14 th , Elli Terwiel 23 rd and Erin Mielzynski 27 th .

The second GS race was even better with Prefontaine picking up her second gold medal and teammate Marie-Michele Gagnon recovering from her previous day's DNF to take the silver. Marianne Abderhalden of Switzerland was third.

Other Canadians were Brigitte Acton in ninth place, Anna Goodman 12 th , Erin Mielzynski 16 th , Stephanie Irwin 18 th , Madison Irwin 22 nd and Elli Terwiel 27 th .

In Loveland, Colorado the men also earned several medals in slalom. Julien Cousineau took gold on the first day, ahead of Leif Kristian of Norway. Whistler's Michael Janyk was third, Brad Spence fifth, Ryan Semple sixth, Patrick Biggs seventh, Dustin Cook 16 th , Paul Stutz 17 th , David Donaldson 20 th , Michael Mackie 22 nd and Whistler's Morgan Pridy 30 th .

Day two went to Michael Janyk by close to a full second, with Natko Zrncic-Dim of Croatia taking silver and Truls Ove Karlsen of Norway bronze.

Canadians in the top 30 were Brad Spence, Patrick Biggs, Ryan Semple, Jean-Philippe Roy, Paul Stutz, Travis Dawson, David Donaldson and Kevin Drury. Whistler's Morgan Pridy went off course in the second run on a course where more than twice as many racers did not finish as completed two runs.

That opened the door for a lot of slower skiers to earn points, with the 30 th place finisher coming in roughly 15 seconds behind Janyk.

The racing continues with the men at Aspen for giant slalom and the women at Loveland for slalom.
