Cancer month to focus on prostate, lungs Whistler fund-raisers hope to repeat the success of last year's first local Canadian Cancer Society campaign which collected $8,000, well above the $3,000 goal. April is the cancer society's featured month. "People will be coming to your door, so please give generously," says Linda Seifred. "Last year we did very well," Seifred says. As well as residential canvassers, money will be raised from daffodil sales at Nesters Market, the IGA and The Grocery Store. Whistler keeps some of the money raised, Seifred says, to fund education programs such as last year's forum on breast cancer. This year's focus will be on prostate cancer — the most common form of cancer among men — and lung cancer. Seifred says she expects to have a challenge getting men to respond to a chance to learn more about prostate cancer. As for lung cancer, she hopes to get youth more aware of what smoking is doing to their health.
