B.C. Rivers Day is a province-wide event, held every year on the last Sunday in September. Established in 1980 and coordinated by the Outdoor Recreation Council, it has been proclaimed by communities across British Columbia and attracts over 75,000 people to more than 100 events each year.

Whistler's B.C. Rivers Day celebrations will take place on Sunday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Edgewater Outdoor Centre on Green Lake. This event is hosted by the Whistler Fisheries Stewardship Group with support from the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW).

Round up your friends and family; pack a picnic and head over to Green Lake for free boat rides, live music, children's activities, and lots of interactive learning opportunities.

We never really need a reason, but why not take this opportunity to slow down and enjoy the bounty of Whistler's natural environment? It's hard to imagine that our ancestors were connected primarily by waterways and boating was a principle mode of transportation. Take a step back in time; enjoy the stunning scenery and travel with friends in a guided voyageur canoe ride, courtesy of Whistler Eco Tours.

B.C. Rivers Day is an opportunity for residents and visitors to learn more about rivers, the many benefits they provide, and our connection to them. Discover more about what you can do to protect watersheds by visiting the exhibits on invasive species, water conservation, pesticide alternatives, and healthy waterfront living.

Enjoy the natural talent and soulful sounds of local musician Susan Holden from 12 to 3 p.m. There will also be watershed-themed arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and all kinds of learning and interactive activities, including live critters on display all day.

Have you ever gazed out onto the lake at a boat sailing by and wondered how a sailboat really works? This is your chance to take a tour of a docked sailboat, courtesy of the Whistler Sailing Association, or enjoy some sailing time on the lake. Volunteers will also on hand answer questions about sailing programs in Whistler.

Healthy watersheds and clean water are integral parts of everyday life for all living things on Earth. It is fundamental that we all work together to be stewards of the natural environment that we are fortunate to share. Join us on September 30 and share stories about what we all do to nurture nature in our community. There will be limited parking on-site. Commuters are encouraged to bike or carpool and make their way to Green Lake to enjoy the festivities.
