The Community Foundation of Whistler is now accepting proposals for three of its grant programs: Community Grants; Environmental Legacy Fund Grants and Whistler Youth Foundation Grants, with a deadline of Mar. 30 for submissions.

The Community Grant Program supports projects in the Whistler and Pemberton areas that range from arts and culture to health and social services, recreation, children and youth. Grants are typically between $500 to $1,000 to charitable organizations, with funds coming from the Community Fund, Pemberton Community Fund, American Friends of Whistler Fund and the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Fund.

This year's round of grants will focus on projects that improve the quality of life for children, youth and families.

The Environmental Legacy Grants program is directed at projects that benefit the environment.

Projects can range from restoration of natural habitats to scientific research to environmental stewardship endeavours.

Some past recipients of the grant include the Whistler Biodiversity Project, Get Bear Smart waste audits, bird inventories and community garden projects. Grants are between $2,500 and $10,000 each.

The fund is the CFOW's biggest with assets of $2.4 million.

The Whistler Youth Foundation is a youth-directed organization that oversees programming geared to youth. This year they have $2,400 available to grant to youth projects.

The CFOW, founded in 1999, has $3.6 million in endowment funds. Only the interest can be spent on grants.
