The final Phat Wednesday Downhill Series race of the season took place Aug. 30, a skill-testing chainless race on A-Line. A crew of 73 riders turned out, removing the most key piece of their drive trains and relying on skill and momentum.
Participants were encouraged to dress up for the event and many obliged. Costumes ranged from dresses to skin-tight ski racing outfits, and even Santa Claus made an early appearance. Seb Kemp, who braved the cooler temperatures in a two-piece purple dress and top, took the award for best costume.
Draw prizes also included items from Sram, Nintendo, Kokanee, Garbanzo Bike and Bean, WTB, Hayes, and Camelback, among others.
The Phat Wednesday Series is now officially adjourned for the season, along with Extended Play hours for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. The Bike Park will remain open daily until the end of the month, wrapping up with the annual Harvest Huckfest. Events include an enduro downhill where racers see how many laps of a course they can complete in a set amount of time, a super D uphill/downhill race and an amateur slopestyle.
