"Take a moment to remember when you were considering opening your business in Whistler. Describe your reasons, your hopes and your dreams of when you started your business and why you chose Whistler."
This is one of the thought-provoking questions that the Whistler Chamber of Commerce is asking its members in an online survey that's part of a strategic exercise to define a vision for the business community for the next five years.
In order to create this vision, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce is asking businesses to complete the online questionnaire, sent to its membership April 5, that will prompt them to describe their future from a place that inspires and excites them.
The chamber is asking all of its members to participate in the questionnaire as, "It is critical that the thoughts and ideas collected through the survey are representative of all segments of the business community," said Fiona Famulak, president of the chamber.
Using a process of collective and collaborative thinking that brings in the results of the survey, the chamber's board of directors will develop a vision for the Whistler business community at its planning conference in May.
Sheree Johnson and Phil Scott of StoryTelling Consulting will be facilitating the May planning session. At Wednesday's chamber luncheon Johnson challenged Whistler businesses to think about how they are relevant today. She also showed how successful companies reinforce their story through every customer touchpoint.
However, the key to defining a vision for the Whistler business community starts with input from members. The online questionnaire is one way to provide input but there are alternatives for those more comfortable with talking to people than to computers. Members can call or meet with the chamber staff to give their feedback, or they can attend one of two workshops being held in the chamber boardroom. The workshops will be held Thursday, April 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., and Monday, April 19, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The survey will be used as an agenda to capture responses from the workshop groups.
Online surveys should be completed by Monday, April 19 at 5 p.m.
