A new name has been chosen for Whistler’s planned community and spiritual centre, which was being called the Whistler Interfaith Chapel and Meeting Place. It has been renamed Whistler Millennium Place. The change reflects the new and expanded role the building will have within the community. Whistler Millennium Place will serve the community of Whistler as a spiritual centre, which, when not in use, would also be used by community groups. Feedback from the community revealed that the various interested groups could not make the best use of the centre as it was designed. Therefore, redesign of the building was undertaken to best meet the needs of the community. The Project Steering Committee believes that the new design of the multi-purpose Whistler Millennium Place, is the most responsible use of the land generously made available by the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the provincial government. The community’s needs were carefully considered in the new design and are reflected in the new name. Support for the project continues to grow since its inception 18 months ago. The number of involved community volunteers has now grown to over 70 persons and the Whistler/Blackcomb Foundation support for childcare is evidenced by the $400,000 commitment.
