The Fairmont Chateau Whistler has a new head honcho. Roger Soane, who has been general manager at the Fairmont Empress hotel in Victoria since 2004, is set to take the reins at GM at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Resort in September.
The Chateau Whistler marks the fifth time Soane has served as a general manager and is the 21 st hotel he has worked for in 34 years in the hotel service industry.
Originally trained as a chef, Soane has since worked in hotels throughout the world. They include a stint as general manager of Fairmont’s two resorts in Barbados — the Fairmont Royal Pavilion and the Fairmont Glitter Bay. There he oversaw a $10 million renovation program.
He has also served as general manger at the Fairmont Palliser, as well as the Fairmont Banff Springs and Pan Pacific hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Vancouver. He has also been Director of Operations at the Empress.
Soane, who takes over the Chateau Whistler from Michael Kaile, has also served as chair of Tourism Victoria.
Kaile, who is moving to TorontoCHECK , is on the board of Tourism Whistler.
