The organizer of a fundraiser for Whistler artist Chili Thom hopes to raise money to support the painter while he continues his treatment for cancer.
Thom began treatment last fall and expects to have another nine weeks of chemotherapy.
"We wanted to support him while he is going through everything, financially and emotionally, and not able to work," said his friend Crystal Borelli, who has known Thom for 15 years.
"What I love about this corridor is that everybody gets together to help out when people are in need."
The fundraiser will take place on Tuesday, March 29, at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Entry will be by a $20 donation at the door. There will be a cash bar.
Prints by Thom will be on sale and a yoga class with various teachers takes place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mats will be provided by Lululemon. Music will be provided by DJ Rob Baanks.
Poet's Pause seeks entries
The Resort Municipality of Whistler is seeking local writers to submit original, unpublished poems for the eighth annual Poet's Pause Poetry Competition.
All levels are welcome.
The themes are Listening and Togetherness. The winners for each category will receive $200 and the poems will go on display as part of a public art project at Alta Lake.
"Anyone can do it, established writers or school-aged children. Even people who haven't written a poem in their lives," said previous winner Mary Macdonald.
"Using poetry to describe the beauty of the mountains gives us a deeper layer, and shows us to ourselves and represents us to the rest of the world."
The deadline for submission is March 24, with the winning poems being read out by council on April 5.

Intersection names film teams
Intersection, the action-sport-filmmaking competition, is returning to the World Ski and Snowboard Festival for its sixth year on Friday, April 15.
Five teams have been named for the event, which tasks crews to shoot, edit and produce five-to-seven-minute ski or snowboard films within 100 kilometres of Whistler. The teams have seven days to create the short; filming takes place from March 9 to 16.
The crews competing this year include The Big Picture, the web series featuring the skiing of Chris Logan and Parker White; Rinse, with Graeme Meiklejohn and a host of skiers and snowboarders; KSM Collective, with Kalum Ko, Dylan Siggers and Zachery Moxley; Andrew Santos Media; and UBC Freeride.

WFF Feature Project Lab launched
The Whistler Film Festival's 2016 Feature Project Lab is looking for entries.
Up to six producers from across Canada will be selected to participate in the lab, an intense two-phase business and creative content development experience for Canadian producers.
The first phase takes place from June 19 to 24 and Phase 2 runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2.
It will focus on strengthening dramatic feature projects from script to screen, advancing a producer's project, meeting participants in December's film festival and facilitating relationships in the industry.
The deadline to apply is April 15, 2016.
