The Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally a time when many Americans travel, but in the post-Sept. 11 world no one was quite sure how eager people would be to fly.
Colorado Ski Country USA, the marketing arm for Colorados 23 ski areas, is making sure those who go through Denver International Airport this weekend know they are appreciated.
Staff from Colorado Ski Country USA and Denver International Airport were stationed at high traffic locations throughout the airport Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, and will be back on Sunday and Monday, thanking people for travelling and offering $100-$150 discount coupons for a return trip to Colorado on United Airlines. Cards directing people to CSCUSAs Web site were also distributed. Through the Web site the organization will be launching a Great Deals campaign next month.
"We want to thank people for coming to Colorado and personally invite them back," said David Perry, president and CEO of Colorado Ski Country USA. "We understand that people have concerns about travelling and we are here to help make sure their experience at DIA, the gateway to Colorado, is a positive one.
"DIA was ranked the number one most efficient airport in the nation for the last four years. We think they are doing a great job and we are here to support them. Anything we can do to reach out to both residents and visitors to Colorado is a step in the right direction."
If response to the program is good, CSCUSA and DIA will work together throughout the holiday season.
"Its a basic program that may have a large impact," said Dan Melfi, assistant marketing director for DIA. "People who are travelling these days are valued more then ever and we want our customers to know that their business is appreciated."
