The construction and upgrade proposal for the recycling/compactor facility at Function Junction will go to council Monday. The facility proposed is larger than the one at Nesters, but it will have the same qualities, such as good access, layout and lighting. It will also have the same range of recycling receptacles as the Nesters facility but will include a re-use-it centre. Brian Barnett, manager of environmental services for the RMOW, says details within the proposal are still being ironed out and may not be completed before winter. "We are talking to Whistler Community Services about building the re-use-it centre next spring, and so far we are in agreement on this," said Barnett. If council approves the proposal Monday, the contractor will begin construction Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the traffic signal being installed at Highway 99 and Alpha Lake Road in Function Junction should be operational by the end of October. The $450,000 project includes exit and acceleration lanes.
