Nightclubbers warned of possible date-rape druggings Whistler's party people, especially young women, are being warned to keep a close eye on their drinks while making the rounds after two locals reported possible druggings to the RCMP. Cpl. David Fee said the RCMP received two apparently unrelated reports from young women who believed their drinks may have been tampered with while they were out in local clubs. Luckily, neither experienced any damaging effects, but Fee said that in light of recent publicity surrounding the use of "date rape" drugs, everyone should be a bit more careful. In the first instance, on June 6, Fee said the complainant was out with friends in the afternoon, but when she went home, she said she thought she felt the effects of drugs and became nauseous. On June 24, a second woman contacted the police after she though that someone had placed LSD into her drink, leaving her dazed and confused after a night out. Both women had blood tests taken by the RCMP but the results were unable to show any evidence of drugs. Fee said the incidents are no cause for panic but suggests that patrons be aware that the potential for problem is out there. Tip-grabber nabbed at Beagle A bar patron who attempted to help himself to the proceeds of the Savage Beagle's tip jar was arrested after staff caught him in the act. Fee said the RCMP responded to a complaint of a disturbance at the Beagle at about 1:30 a.m. on July 12. There they found that there had been an altercation and bar staff had apprehended a single male after he tried to make off with the tips. Possible charges, including theft and assault, are pending. The bicycle thief brought to justice The owner of a $2,500 Kona mountain bike will be sleeping a bit easier after RCMP tracked down a 16-year-old who they believe heisted it a day earlier. RCMP received a call on July 9 after the bike was taken from a residence on Cheakamus Way. A day later, the bike was recovered and a young offender was charged with theft. Caught in the act RCMP are searching for a suspect after a homeowner at Panorama Ridge discovered a man apparently in the midst of a break and enter at the property. On July 11, the property owner walked into his storage room only to find someone attempting to break into one of the lockers, with an empty bag in hand. After a brief confrontation, the owner wisely decided to let the man go and called police. The would-be thief is described as a white male, aged 25 to 30, approximately 5' 11" and 185 pounds, with collar-length sandy-coloured hair.
