creekside plans

Intrawest unveils Whistler Creek plans during May Days Development, planning and construction team leaders from Intrawest will be on hand both Saturday and Sunday, May 22-23, to update Whistler residents regarding the Comprehensive Development Strategy for Whistler Creek, Blackcomb Benchlands, The Peaks and Spring Creek. The development of these areas is a long-term project comprising 2,031 bed units, a community school, a new firehall and 36 acres of public park land, among other revitalization and building projects. The CDS plans on redistributing the bed units obtained when Whistler Mountain merged with Blackcomb in 1997/98. Intrawest now operates both mountains. Part of the CDS plan calls for some 100 employee townhomes to be built by Intrawest in a new subdivision that will be known as Spring Creek, south of Millar’s Pond and accessible from Highway 99. Spring Creek will have a mixture of single family and townhomes, including rental townhomes. employee suites will be a mandatory requirement attached to 50 per cent of the single family lots. At one time called Whistler Station, the development plans at Whistler Creek focus on the area surrounding the Creekside Gondola. The area will include a new Dusty’s and a four-story parkade. Franz’s Trail retail village will comprise a liquor store, post office and other year-round services. The first step in the project at Whistler Creek will be flood protection and habitat enhancement, which will begin this summer. Above the gondola base an upscale, 60-lot subdivision call The Peaks is planned. Lot E on the Blackcomb Benchlands, above the Upper Village, will be developed with 590 market bed units in an effort to reduce potential density in the new south side development. Most of Intrawest’s plans will be on display on or near Dusty’s patio in Whistler Creekside between noon and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A barbecue and entertainment is part of the package there for the May Days celebrations. Bus transportation to the Creek is free with your Pique passport.
