Crown Resort joins Coast chain Crown Resort Accommodations has signed a management contract with Coast Hotels & Resorts of Vancouver. Effective immediately, Coast will manage, operate and market Crown Resort Accommodations’ 300 units under the name The Coast Resort at Whistler. David Demers, president of Crown Resort Accommodations, will retain ownership. Demers, a 20 year resident of Whistler, took over Crown Resort Accommodations in 1988 with 10 units under its management. Since then, operations have expanded to 300 one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom townhomes and condominiums located in 19 properties throughout Whistler. In November 1997, Crown Resort Accommodations launched its Signature Homes division featuring four exclusive four, five and six bedroom residences on Blueberry Hill. A number of Signature Homes residences were selected as accommodations for Prince Charles and his entourage during their recent ski vacation in Whistler. "Whistler is renowned as a premier resort destination with its world-class skiing, championship golf courses and exciting shopping and nightlife," remarked Graeme Benn, Vice President of Marketing for Coast Hotels. "The addition of The Coast Resort at Whistler was a logical step in Coast’s development and our goal to become a leader in resort accommodation." Day to day operations of The Coast Resort at Whistler will be headed up by General Manager Mark Hope, who brings more than a decade of hotel experience to the position. Hope was most recently Director of Marketing and Sales Administration at Coast’s corporate office. Crown Resort’s current staff of 70 will not be affected by the change in management. The existing sales personnel will be supported by a 25-member sales force located at Coast’s head office and throughout B.C. and Alberta. The Coast Resort at Whistler will be connected to the Global Distribution System (GDS), a world-wide airline and travel agent reservation system, as well as to the chain’s central reservation office staffed by more than 30 agents. Demers will remain on-site and play an ongoing role in owner relations, ensuring a smooth transition to the new management system. "Our success has been built on a partnership with our Owners," commented Demers. "Coast Resorts & Hotels’ name and marketing expertise will benefit both our guests and owners in this highly competitive market. We are very excited about this new direction for our company." The Coast Resort at Whistler will be the second ski resort property under Coast Hotels & Resorts management. In December 1997, Coast opened the $12 million, 100-room Coast Resort at Big White. In addition to The Coast Resort at Whistler, Coast Hotels & Resorts recently announced it will manage and operate the Coast Salt Spring Island Village Resort scheduled for completion in the summer of 1999. Coast Hotels & Resorts’ US partner, WestCoast Hotels, operate 25 properties located throughout Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Arizona and Hawaii. Both chains are linked by a central reservation system. Coast Hotels & Resorts has 21 hotel and resort properties in British Columbia and Alberta.
