Burrard International plans to fill in "the pit" at the south end of the Crystal Lodge this spring, but will face a strict building schedule in order to minimize noise and disruptions in Mountain Square. Plans for three levels of hotel space above two levels of commercial space were presented by Burrard International Monday. The semi-circular structure will add 8,700 square feet of commercial space, including a new restaurant looking on to Mountain Square. The other level of commercial space will be below the square level, next to the Crystal Lounge. To build the three levels of residential space four existing rooms at the end of the hotel will be eliminated. Four larger suites will be incorporated into the new structure. The plans include purchasing a strip of approximately 1,235 square feet from WVLC. Burrard International has proposed to pay $62,000 for the strip on the edge of Mountain Square, which will be incorporated into the addition. While council members all supported the project, the timing of construction — specifically during the Easter holidays and spring breaks — is a concern. A detailed construction schedule must be submitted by the contractor before construction is allowed to start. The building will also be subject to the municipality’s village construction policy
