In last week’s story on the national downhill championships we misquoted Chis Colbeck as saying "We don’t have anybody racing on the World Cup circuit for some reason, but I’m looking forward to showing everybody what the Canadians can do." There are in fact several Canadians competing on the circuit this year.

The actual quote was in reference to the national team selection of local downhillers Sylvie Allen and Claire Buchar, who finished first and second at the national championships but "who haven’t been to many races on the World Cup circuit this season."

The statement "I’m looking forward to showing everybody what the Canadians can do" was in reference to the whole team’s chances at the UCI World Mountain Bike Championships in Kaprun, Austria from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.

In addition, Colbeck was quoted as saying, "She is the Canadian champ and she has the potential to go" in reference to Whistler’s Brook Baker, who was first among Junior Expert women at the nationals. To clarify, Colbeck was saying she had the potential to represent Canada at the world championships in both the cross-country and downhill categories – as the Canadian champion she was automatically given a spot at the world’s.

Colbeck had been selected as the downhill coach for the Canadian Team for the world championships and was commenting on his opportunity to coach local riders in that competition.
