The mountain bike sport of dual slalom is making its comeback in Whistler with a pro contest during next month’s Crankworx Freeride Mountain Bike Festival and the possibility of a Phat Wednesday slalom later this summer.
Beating both those events to punch was last Friday’s event, hosted by Late and Unique Nighttime Alternatives (LUNA).
More than 40 riders turned out to try their hand at the course, built earlier that day on a gentle slope over the bikercross course. While the hill wasn’t steep and the 11 gates were a comfortable distance apart, it was still challenging for riders to keep both wheels on course as speeds picked up after an hour of training. Overall it was a good test of a riders’ speed, control and agility.
Riders made two runs each, one on the red course and one on the blue, and were given a combined time that determined their spot in the rankings.
