Ear Candy

With Glenn Mishaw

Producer and contributor to 2003’s Rutherford Creek Collective flood benefit CD project, aspiring to song writing genius.

My top 5 songs right now:

1. So Many Miles Away — Stephen Fearing

From So Many Miles recorded live at the Tranzac Club down the street from my old place on Brunswick Ave. in downtown Toronto. This guy’s songwriting is unbelievably descriptive and mystic. If you follow songwriters, Stephen is a must-see.

2. Calling All Angels — Blackie and the Rodeo Kings

In a time of endless pop drivel this trio of raw talent and musicianship is truly refreshing. Tom Wilson (Junkhouse) wrote this one but Colin Linden and Stephen Fearing round it out with awesome rootsy writing.

3. Billy Austin — Steve Earle

Earle’s body of work is so vast it’s hard to choose. But I have a live version of this in my car right now. This song stirs up the debate over capital punishment.

4. Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings — Lucinda Williams

Straight up rock ’n’ roll from a kick-ass writer.

5. After the Rain — Blue Rodeo

For me Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor are one of the top five song-writing duos of all time. Cuddy’s voice is unmistakable.

Last Words:

"Life is what happens while you’re making plans. Make educated choices. And let’s get these whining millionaire hockey players back on the ice where they belong. I want my Saturday afternoon ritual back!"
