Enjoy a sweet treat for the bears this weekend.

The Jennifer Jones Whistler Bear Foundation is launching a Maple Syrup Fund-raiser. It’s a unique gift as local bears adorn the labels. And as maple syrup is already a popular tourist souvenir, it’s hoped visitors will take back a little piece of bear education to their part of the globe.

Proceeds benefit the JJWBF programs such as the Bear Aware, Neighbourhood Bear Watch, Bear Smart Business and Non-lethal Bear Management.

Participating retailers that will be selling the maple syrup with the bear on it include IGA, Nesters, Food Plus, Petro Canada, Rogers Chocolates, Whistler Museum and Archives, Whistler Kitchen Works and Whistler Valley Adventure Centre.

Oscar de la Hoya and Canadian Arturo Gatti will fight it out on the big screen Saturday, March 24, but the winners could be animals at WAG.

The newly renovated Cinnamon Bear Bar in the Delta Whistler Resort is screening the big fight, starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Donations received at the door will be forwarded to WAG, the people who look after Whistler’s lost and injured pets. Money raised will help WAG fight against ongoing pet overpopulation through a Spay and Neuter program.

Everyone who makes a donation has a chance to win a pair of tickets to the April 5 Vancouver Canucks game.
