Who says kids don’t know what they want to be when they grow up?
At the ripe young age of 13 and 15, Sean Warfield (Slip) and Tej Singh (Slide) met through their obsession with jungle and raves.
Now as adults they are considered to be the foremost drum ’n’ bass DJ and producer figures who put North America on the jungle music map. Their contribution recently won them the highly acclaimed Knowledge Drum ’n’ Bass Award for Best International Drum ’n’ Bass Label 2000.
They are infamous for tearing up drum ’n’ bass crowds world wide, and have three international smash hits to date. The first, Let Me Know, was a massive club hit in ’97 in North America and was featured on Freaky Flow's Tits CD. The second hit was Man of Steal and the third was the U.K. release of Superman Track, further cementing Slip ’n’ Slide as the ones to watch – or listen to more importantly.
When you listen to Slip ’n’ Slide you will hear two versatile and dynamic DJs. Their sound has many flavours of drum ’n’ bass, from jazz, to techstep, to ragga.
The DJ-Duo Slip ’n’ Slide will be sure to impress and hype the most hard to move audiences.
Playing alongside Slip ’n’ Slide will be JnB Residence Plastic Surgeon and DJ Logic. Doors open at 9 p.m. with a $5 cover charge.
WAC to give out more grants
If you’re the artistic type you know how expensive it can be to get creative, but the Whistler Arts Council feels your pain.
Thanks to some donations distributed through the B.C. Arts Council, funding is now available to WAC members to help with culture projects comparable to the goals and mandate of the arts council.
Priority will be given to established non-profit societies but unincorporated groups may apply. WAC will provide funds to pay specific expenses for projects.
Projects eligible for funding include: professional development workshops for amateur or professional writers/artists/performers; assistance with programming/productions in the performing or literary arts; art exhibitions; purchase of sheet music; project related costs (venue/equipment rental, artist/director/facilitator fees). Funding is not available for: general operating expenses, deficits, capital or equipment purchases.
The total amount available from the Member Grants budget is $1,500.
Depending on the number of applications received, average grants range from $300 to $1,000 per group. All applicants must be current members of WAC. The Whistler Arts Council board will establish a committee to review member grant requests. Deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003.
Recipients of 2002 Member Grants were Howe Sound Arts Association, Whistler Public Library and the Between Shifts Theatre Society.

Call for proposals
Intrawest if beckoning to local artisans to submit proposals for public art benches for the Creekside development.
The goal is to provide the public with three benches that serve as a resting place and works of art.

Volunteers needed
The eighth annual Sea to Sky Film Festival, which will take place at the Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish on Sept. 8th, is looking for volunteers. Festival organizers are looking for anyone who is interested in helping out before or during the festival.
This competitive festival celebrates independent films. More than 10 films will compete for best comedy, documentary, drama, and experimental film. A panel of local judges will decide the winners. This is a fun-filled, hosted event with many filmmakers in attendance. Beer and wine is served during breaks and the audience has a chance to talk to actors, directors and producers.
