Euros dominate Boardercross

The podium at the Kokanee Boardercross North American Championships at Mount Seymour was invaded by European riders last weekend, who took four out of six podium spots and the lion’s share of the $25,000 prize purse.

In the men’s pro competition Feb. 24, the top two spots went to Philippe Conte and Nicolas Conte of France (no relation), with Canada’s Robert Fagan pulling up in third, and Bertran Denervaud of Switzerland in fourth.

Other Canadians in the top 10 included Michael Hart in sixth, Whistler’s Jeff Ihaksi in eighth and Cory Mitchell in 10th. Ihaksi was also the official course designer.

In the women’s competition, Line Oestvold of Norway took the chequered flag ahead of Vancouver’s Erin Simmons. Claudia Hauserman of Switzerland was third, and Canada’s Alison Clark was fourth. Other top Canadians include Candice Drouin in fifth, and Alison Amos in ninth.
