Area residents should not be alarmed at the sight of smoke as prescribed burns will be underway near D’Arcy, the Devine area and the northern portion of Pemberton Portage Road from April 18 through May 20.

The burns will be conducted by the N’Qquatqua Band Council and the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of B.C., along with assistance from the BC Wildfire Service.

In a release, the Wildfire Service noted that smoke will be visible in all three areas as controlled burns get underway in an area of about 12 hectares. Crews will assist with the burns, which will be carried out only if site conditions are favourable and weather conditions allow smoke to dissipate quickly.

This is the final stage of an ongoing fuel management project that started in 2014, the release stated.
