Federal Liberals in B.C. to hold convention in Whistler

Westin Resort and Spa to host biennial meeting Nov. 20-22

The Liberal Party of Canada in British Columbia is getting set to hold its biennial convention in Whistler.

British Columbians among the ranks of the federal Liberals will converge on the Westin Resort and Spa from Nov. 20 to 22 for a biennial meeting to host policy sessions, train young Liberals and meet members of the B.C. caucus, which currently numbers five.

The convention will also provide an opportunity for B.C. party members to vote in a new executive, which will manage the party's affairs and finances in the province and make administrative decisions and bylaws. The new executive will also recommend plans and policies for the party.

There are six positions up for grabs. Thus far there's only one declared candidate for each of President, Secretary, Nomination Chair and Policy Chair, while two candidates each are vying for Membership Chair and Organization Chair.

Members attending the convention will have a chance to see formal presentations by each of the candidates and grill them with questions before voting on Nov. 21 and 22.

Any federal Liberals interested in attending are asked to register online at www.teambc.ca.

The convention will be co-chaired by David Anderson, a former federal Minister of the Environment, and Michelle Hassen, a Liberal candidate in the riding of New Westminster-Coquitlam who failed to win a seat in the 2008 election.
