Figure Skaters spin a few medals

The Whistler Skating Club is coming off a strong couple of weeks, with athletes making the podium at events in Campbell River and Vancouver’s North Shore.

Broderick Thompson placed first in the preliminary men’s category at the Pacific Skate competition in Campbell River, and will represent B.C. at the national StarSkate Championships in Charlottetown, PEI on April 3.

In the North Shore International, hosted by North Shore Winter Club, Emily Nakajima led the way with a gold medal in the Elementary Ladies 7 and Under category.

Georgia Baker was fourth in the Pre-preliminary Ladies 9 and 10 contest in group three. Lucy Halliwell and Eilley Harwood were fourth and fifth respectively in the 11 and Over category, although they competed in different competitive groups.

In the Preliminary Ladies 12 and Over category, Katelyn McKeever, Hilary Iles and Ariel Harwood were fifth, sixth and 10th in group one. Marielle Thompson and Verena Facundo were fifth and sixth in group two.

The next contest for the Whistler Skating Club is the Vancouver Island Skate in Victoria, April 15-17.
