What better time than Fathers Day to celebrate part of Whistler’s heritage and go fishing?

The Whistler Angling Club is presenting its third annual Alta Lake Fishing Event on Father’s Day, June 15, at Lakeside Park.

There are lots of prizes again this year but organizers are calling it a fishing "event" rather than a derby. Some anglers were apparently a little too competitive last year and their catches were a little too fishy.

Registration for the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children accompanied by an adult. The fee includes a picnic and a chance at draw prizes. Pre-registration is at Whistler Fly Fishing, 103-4338 Main Street. Registration on June 15 is from 8 to 9 a.m. and fishing from 9 to 11 a.m.

Following the fishing event fisheries officials will be stocking Alta lake with 2,500 sterilized cutthroat trout. The fish will literally be poured into the lake at 11 a.m.
