Five comedians will be taking to the stage over the next five weeks in a new Wednesday laugh night series at The Crystal Lounge.

Next up is John Beuhler on Feb. 3, winner of the Corner Gas Comedy contest and the Just For Laughs Home Grown Comedy Competition.

"'Stand Up Comedy' definitely is growing in Whistler at an awesome rate, it's like a snow ball coming down the mountain," says the Crystal Lounge's manager Jono Young.

"We host an Open Mic Comedy Night on the first Monday each month, but we feel that people want to laugh more than once a month."

Other comedians include by Damonde Tschritter on Feb. 10, Kathleen McGee on Feb. 17 and Brett Martin on Feb. 24.

Each week is hosted by Whistler comedian Jonathan Baum.

All shows start at 9 p.m. Admission is $10.

Artists hold garage and art sale

Ten Whistler artists are holding a three-day art and garage sale — Diamond in the Rough.

Doid, Pepe, Andrea Mueller, Vanessa Stark — to name just a few local painters and sculptors — decided to pull their work together and clean out their homes at the same time, says organizer Randy Smith.

The sale takes place at Podium Auto Detailing on Alpha Lake Road in Function Junction from Thursday, Jan. 21, to Saturday, Jan. 23. It is open from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with music by Degenerates in General.

This Changes Everything doc at Quest

The documentary This Changes Everything by Canadian environmentalist and filmmaker Avi Lewis will be screened at the Quest University Canada in Squamish on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The screening is part of Quest's event series in Whistler.

It is followed by a faculty panel led by Ahalya Satkunaratnam, John Reid-Hresko, Mai Yasue and Ian Picketts.

The film asks if confronting the climate crisis is the best chance humanity has in building a better world.
