Flurry of tickets for week two of Crankworx

Bike theft continues to be a problem

The second week of Crankworx saw 175 tickets handed out, mostly for open alcohol offenses.Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair of Whistler RCMP said 152 tickets were given for open liquor, two for consuming alcohol in public, seven for intoxication in public, three for obstruction, three for minor possession, one for urinating in public, two for nuisance, and three for fireworks.Meanwhile, Police also reported that bikes were stolen in a series of thefts on Lakeside Road on Aug. 19. One man, living in the 3300 block, said someone broke into his unlocked garage. Two other properties had expensive bikes stolen from garages that night.

Man injured by bottle in the face

A man staying at a hotel in Whistler called the RCMP and reported he had been hit in the face with a beer bottle and needed medical attention on Aug. 19 at 3:30 a.m.He told police that an acquaintance of his had thrown a bottle, which had hit him in the face, breaking the skin. The injuries were photographed and a statement taken.A suspect, a 22-year-old man from Coquitlam, was arrested for assault and brought to the Whistler detachment, and was later released on the promise to appear for a court date on Sept. 19, and was given an undertaking to have no contact with the injured man, who was a 22 year old from Maple Ridge.

Two darts to down this bear

A problem bear proved a slippery customer in Whistler Village, when the Conservation Service called in the RCMP to tranquilize the animal at Village Gate and Northland Boulevard on August 14 at 10:20 a.m. After darting the bear, it ran into nearby woods and was not found by officers.At noon, the RCMP received a second call that the same bear had returned to the same location. It was located, further tranquilized and this time successfully removed from the area.Another bear was tranquilized on McKeever Place on Aug. 21. - Cathryn Atkinson
